Kentucky State Sign on Live-Edge Wood

This sign is made from a wind-felled red oak tree obtained from a neighbor after a rough storm. We assisted the neighbor in harvesting the tree for removal and he graciously allowed us to keep the wood. We cut the red oak into slabs with the sawmill and dried it in our solar kiln. 

The wood for the Kentucky shape was cut, sanded and treated with wood conditioner followed by multiple applications of a dark walnut stain. A water-based polyurethane was applied to give it a little shine and for extra protection. 

The rough edge wooden slab was cut, sanded and treated with a wood conditioner and a water-based polyurethane sealant. 

The state of Kentucky section was attached to the live-edge slab.

Hooks are attached to the back for easy display. 

It measures approximately 25 inches wide, 11 inches tall and 2 inches deep.
