Custom Order - Mobile Rabbit Hutch

A customer reviewed our home Chibbit (mobile chicken coop and rabbit hutch) post: Chibbit – PJ's Projects (pjsprojects.com).  They wondered if we would consider creating a mobile rabbit hutch for their suburban home. We took on the project!

This project was completed during my hospital incarceration (see details here:We Had A Baby! – PJ's Projects (shopifypreview.com). So ,the hubby was forced to complete and deliver the entire project by himself. Personally, I think he did a fantastic job! I have even considered having him build something similar for our property so that I may expand our rabbit family. Don't tell him, yet! He already thinks that I come up with too many projects for our home.

Here's a description of the process:

We discussed the project with the customer to ensure that we understood their goals for this piece. I found similar looking pieces online and shared photos with the hubby and the customer so that everyone could be on the same page.

**An idea of a mobile unit to guide our design. NOT OUR PROJECT.

Then, the hubby drew out a rough sketch of the project.

After we understood the concept of the project (hubby and I had different ideas and needed to get the customer to verify their intent), hubby drew up a better design plan.

I picked and verified the paint color with the customer (my only real contribution to this project).

The hubby built the base frame. He decided to paint it as the project was built to avoid any bare areas being missed by not being able to reach the tight spots.

He built the inside doors. This allows the owner to keep the rabbits contained in the hutch when desired or to leave it open for the rabbits to travel back and forth as desired.

He added the hardware.

Then, he built the ramp.

The top is set to open with a hinge to allow for easy access to the rabbits.

He added the wheels and tested out the mobility in our yard.

The final project turned out great!

The rabbits agreed that it was a great home for them!
