Homeschool Update - February

We have been homeschooling for many years and I sometimes forget that what we do isn't the same for others. So, I decided to try adding a monthly homeschool recap to this blog to demonstrate one way (there are so many methods out there!) that homeschooling can work.

We use an eclectic method of homeschooling that leans very heavily towards the Charlotte Mason method of teaching. Without going into too much detail about this method, it can be described as very literature-heavy. We read and discuss A LOT of books. We don't spend a lot of time on workbooks, worksheets, etc., We have gravitated toward this method over the years and found that it works very well for our learners and family lifestyle.

Here are a few field trips/activities that we have participated in during the month of February:

- We continued with our co-op. The boys participate in Apologetics, IEW writing and Anatomy classes. The girls participate in Bible, PE, Writing and Science classes.

- Our oldest son spent time fixing fence with his grandfather. He learned a lot!

- We participated in a class about birds at the Boone County Nature Center. We love working with Ms. Susan!

 - We had a playdate at Southfork Park with friends. It was cut short when we discovered that the wind was doing some damage to our property, but it was fun while it lasted.

- The boys worked to fix the Chibbet roof. It was damaged by high winds. The goats decided to help them.

- We attended a homeschool history class at the Grant County Library.

- The girls continued their basketball season with Upward.

- The kids continued to learn about caring for a little one.

- We had some issues with package deliveries being left at various spots. We decided to designate a specific spot for these packages. Our oldest son was volunteered to put the box together when it arrived. He learned a valuable lesson on how to read and follow enclosed instructions.

- Our daughter doesn't like the repetition involved with cleaning the bathroom. She discovered a way to keep her newly cleaned bathroom safe from destruction.

- They continued to help with the care of the animals.

- We attended a birthday party. It was a lot of fun!

In addition to the festivities, we had a view of a cow giving birth in the field.

The calf turned out to be a large one and she started having some trouble. Assistance was required for delivery, but the mama and calf are both doing fine.

Baby Updates:

- She has been teething and finds the cold teethers helpful.

- She tried a variety of foods. She loves carrots but really detests peas.

- She is participating in our reading lessons.

We are excited to see what the next month will bring for our learners!
