June Homeschooling Activities

We have been homeschooling for eight years and I sometimes forget that what we do isn't the same for others. So, I decided to try adding a monthly homeschool recap to this blog to demonstrate one way (there are so many methods out there!) that homeschooling can work.

We use an eclectic method of homeschooling that leans very heavily towards the Charlotte Mason method of teaching. Without going into too much detail about this method, it can be described as very literature-heavy. We read and discuss A LOT of books. We don't spend a lot of time on workbooks, worksheets, etc., We have gravitated toward this method over the years and found that it works very well for our learners and family lifestyle.

The month of June was our summer break. The kids wrapped up their school year in the first few days of June and then spent their time with family and friends enjoying summer activities. I was hospitalized during the month of June, so I utilized some of this time making lesson plans and ordering materials for the upcoming school year.

Here are a few field trips/activities that we have participated in:

Our oldest spent a few days working with his uncle and papaw building a porch and other homebuilding activities.

They spent a day swimming at a family member's home.

They played miniature golf with their grandmother at Blue Licks State Park.

They enjoyed their time swimming with friends at the Oakbrook Swim Club.

The girls attended an end-of-the-year soccer banquet with their teammates and great coaches.

My oldest participated in an end-of-the-year soccer party held at a teammate's home but was too busy to take any pictures.

They visited me in the hospital where we watched TV, played various board games and the kids showed off their newly learned skills at playing Rummy.

They attended birthday parties and spent time with friends and family.
