Description of a Custom Kentucky Sign Project

We recently had a custom order request that was a fun project so I thought I would share the process with you.

The customer wanted a state of Kentucky with some denotations of their hometowns and current city. Here's the process:

The hubby obtained the reclaimed tobacco tier rails.

He cut these down and planed them. The pieces were then glued and held together with clamps. I have been told that you cannot have too many clamps.

After the pieces were set, the shape, in this case the state of Kentucky, was cut out. A wood conditioner was applied to bring out the beauty of the wood.

The customer wanted something to denote the hometowns of the couple and their current city. We chose to attach red hearts to represent their respective hometowns and a white heart to represent the home that they have built together.

A protective layer of polyurethane and a hook on the back were added to finish the project.

This was a fun way to personalize a custom order for a great couple!
