Custom Order - Farmhouse Table

We had a request for a customized farmhouse table.

The process started out with raw oak wood slabs.

The hubby joined three pieces together to form the table legs.

He joined the table top together. He claims that he needs more clamps, but he is always looking to add to his tool collection!

This is a portion of the tabletop.

The hubby had surgery during this project build and was on lifting restrictions. We were lucky to get some help with the project. Here's a family member using a band saw on the table legs.

The beginning of the table's base:

The bread board ends were added to the table. The center dowel hole is designed with a tight fit. All of the other dowel holes were designed with lateral spacing. The spacing of the dowel holes allows for wood expansion and contraction to prevent cracking of the final piece.

Attaching the base to the top portion of the table.

Cross members and diagonal supports were added to the base. The top is made to free float from the base to prevent cracking.

The bread board ends with 1/2-inch oak dowels placed.

A closeup of how the table legs are joined together:

The table was moved to a cleaner location (without sawdust, etc.) to add the stain.

The customer requested a custom-made stain to match other pieces in their home. The table was stained, and several coats of polyurethane were added to give it increased durability.

The table was delivered and placed into the customer's home.

This was an extensive but very fun project to complete. This table is a sturdy and beautiful addition to their home.
