Homeschool Update - March

We have been homeschooling for many years, and I sometimes forget that what we do isn't the same for others. So, I am writing a monthly homeschool recap to demonstrate one way (there are so many methods out there!) that homeschooling can work. 

We use an eclectic method of homeschooling that leans very heavily towards the Charlotte Mason method of teaching. Without going into too much detail about this method, it can be described as very literature-heavy. We read and discuss A LOT of books. We don't spend a lot of time on workbooks, worksheets, etc., We have gravitated toward this method over the years and found that it works very well for our learners and family lifestyle.

Here are a few field trips/activities that we have participated in during the month of March:

E., M. and G. participated in Livestock Judging Competition at the Beef Expo. They didn't place but they had a great time. 

 

  • M. attended 4H photography class.

 

  • P. attended a business class by a local entrepreneur. 

 

  • E., M. and G. attended the Academy of the Arts Play practices 

 

  • The kids participated in our church's youth group.

 

  • We participated in our church's Journey through Jerusalem event. This is an event where we dress up and participate in character as if we were in a market in Jerusalem after the crucifixion and resurrection. We talk about what it may have been like for the people in that time period. 

 

  • P. submitted his essay for the FFA contest.

 

  • M., E., and G. attended livestock judging classes for 4H and FFA.

 

  • E. gave a dairy speech, and P. gave an Ag Mechanics speech at FFA regional competition. 

 

  • They joined their FFA group with a site visit at Hagyard Veterinary Pharmacy. They learned about the science of creating medicine for the equine industry and toured the facility to see the surgical and hospital areas. 

 

  • P. attended regional FFA paperwork day as a delegate. He won a prize for his record-keeping practices related to his woodworking project. 

 

  • M. continued her soccer season with the BU Middle School team. 

 

  • M. and G. worked with a neighbor on a sewing project. They are learning how to hand sew and how to use the sewing machine to create new items. 

 

  • M. and G. practiced their crocheting skills and created new designs. 

 

  • P. and E. attended a Murder Mystery Dance focused on the knights and ladies. E. even won an award for his costume. 

 

  • P. and E. assisted with the children's ministry at church.

 

  • They assisted with babysitting. 

       

      • The continued to practice their culinary skills.


      • They continued to help with farm chores and activities. 

                 

                Our lives are not what is considered normal, but we are loving it this way!
