We have been homeschooling for many years and I sometimes forget that what we do isn't the same for others. So, I am writing a monthly homeschool recap to demonstrate one way (there are so many methods out there!) that homeschooling can work.
We use an eclectic method of homeschooling that leans very heavily towards the Charlotte Mason method of teaching. Without going into too much detail about this method, it can be described as very literature-heavy. We read and discuss A LOT of books. We don't spend a lot of time on workbooks, worksheets, etc., We have gravitated toward this method over the years and found that it works very well for our learners and family lifestyle.
Here are some items that we have read, listened to or watched during the month of November:

Here are a few field trips/activities that we have participated in during the month of November:
Our son attended a sheep/goat sale at the Paris Stockyards.
Our sons participated in their 4H Skillathon meetings.
Our oldest two children participated in an FFA site visit. This day involved visiting four different farms to discover how their operations work.
One of the farms belonged to a member's family and he was able to share his knowledge with goat rearing and showing.
They visited a sheep farm.
They visited a tobacco farm.
Our sons participated in their FFA in-person Animal Science class. The focus of the class was on infectious disease and prevention.
Our sons participated in their official FFA meeting. They worked together to discuss group events and competitions.
They gathered items for donations to a local animal shelter.
We experienced our first snowfall of the year. It didn't last long but they had fun with the experience.
Our son and the toddler attended an animal sale at the Farmers Stockyards in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Our son enjoyed it but our toddler was soon bored and caused a bit of a distraction.
Our sons assisted with various sawmilling projects.
A couple of our kids participate in the local co-op. Our son attends classes for Bible and Art. Our daughter attends classes for Bible, Art, Science and Logic. They really enjoy their time learning with their friends.
Our kids participated in their Youth Group and Young Disciples group at church.
Our girls participated in Pioneer Days sponsored by our Co-op. This included speakers and demonstrations.
Our daughter continued her crochet lessons with the Master Crocheter and found time to practice at home.
Our oldest son is taking elective classes through Bluegrass United. These classes include Interpersonal Communication, History of Comic Books and Critical Thinking. He is enjoying both the alternative to his core classes and the time discussing the topics with friends.
We celebrated a birthday!
Our oldest studied the Kentucky driving manual and took the permit test. He passed!
Our son continues to maintain his worm farm. He applied for an FFA grant to help expand his operation. He won!
Our daughter assisted me with a craft show at Riding with Rhythm.
She assisted with dressing up the horse for pictures.
Our daughter enjoyed a day with her grandmother in a birthday celebration activity.
The guys participated in an annual Father-Son Paintball event. They really enjoy this time of comradery and competition.
Our sons attended their soccer banquet from Bluegrass United.
They both won awards!
Our sons participated in an FFA site visit at Hagyard Equine facility. It was a very informative tour.
Our sons participated in an FFA Site visit to Elmwood Stock Farm to discuss their turkey operation. They manage their livestock with similar methods, and it was great to see their operation. Unfortunately, I was too cold to take any pictures.
Our daughter has discovered an interest in yoga. I am enjoying participating in this activity with her as she encourages and reminds me to take time to fit this into our busy days. Our favorite online instructor is Adriene.
We avoid traditional desks for our learning and enjoy being comfortable while enjoying great books.
Everyone helps with the farm chores, garden and the animals. We were preparing for winter by sending some of the animals for processing or sale.
We are hatching new chicks.
We organized and took inventory of our new product, USDA certified pastured pork.
We purchased a new ram and introduced him to the ladies. We are hoping for lambs in late spring.
We decorated the house for Christmas.
Our lives are not what is considered normal, but we are loving it this way!
