Moving is a busy and slightly stressful process even after all of the stuff is physically in the new place. Cleaning and organizing the home is a lot by itself, especially if it takes over a week to find your silverware! I was informed daily that eating cereal with a spork was not ideal.
Planning and preparing the homestead with a winter deadline looming really puts the pressure on. We are doing many new projects right now and I'll share them with you as they progress (although maybe a bit later than intended).
One thing that we wanted to do as soon as possible was to plant trees. Our new home has a great view but the wind can be a bit brutal on the top of this hill without the buffer of trees. We have a lot of trees on the outer sections of the property but not very many around the house.
We contacted a local landscaping company and had a few trees delivered to the house. We used L&L Landscaping and contacted them through Facebook: @LlLandscaping . They were great to work with and we recommend them if you are in the area.
We ordered a variety of white oak, maple, dogwood and red bud. The white oak was planted for the deer. The maple because they were the most mature trees available and they are strong and pretty. The dogwood was purchased on a whim. The redbud was purchased because we loved the redbud jelly that we made last year from flowers bummed from a family member's tree.
Here are a few pictures:
Our dog, Rosco, was a great supervisor!
Since we were planting several trees, we borrowed the tractor and auger to make the job of digging the holes easier.
The girls liked the idea of supervising so they joined in!
Building muscles!
We have plans to add fruit trees and berry bushes to another portion of the property, build a greenhouse, build a barn, set up the sawmill, add fencing, plant a garden, add more animals...
It's amazing the projects that can be imagined with just a bit of land!
Shew dear, you make me tired thinking about all your plans. It is awesome knowing you and Barry are living your dream. Good luck with all your plans and I see you have the help of your Dad. That is a definite plus. Love you guys
