Handcrafted Kentucky Sign – Made from Locally Salvaged Red Oak

Every piece tells a story, and this one begins with a storm. After high winds brought down a neighbor’s red oak tree, we helped with its removal — and with their kindness, were able to keep the wood to give it new life. We milled the tree into slabs on our sawmill and carefully dried the lumber in our solar kiln.

The Kentucky-shaped centerpiece was cut from that very oak, then lovingly sanded smooth, treated with wood conditioner, and finished with layers of rich dark walnut stain. To protect and highlight the natural grain, we applied a water-based polyurethane for a subtle sheen and lasting durability.

The live-edge backing slab showcases the oak’s natural beauty — sanded, sealed, and left with its organic edge to remind you of the tree’s story. The Kentucky silhouette is securely attached to the slab, creating a rustic yet refined wall piece that celebrates both craftsmanship and place.

Hooks are attached to the back for easy hanging.
